田中 真聡 Masato Tanaka (
kinetic artist / space designer )
Masato Tanaka was born in Yokohama,Japan. He obstained his master's
degree in design from Tokyo University of Arts. Combining art with
technological knowledge. Masato has focused on the creation of a series
of "Kinetic Sculptures" that demonstrate that technology
not only brings the acceleration of modern life but also contains
sense of hidden natural beauty. Although electricity, motors magnets
are inportant compornents in Masato's works, what creates the major
kinetic energy for free movement is nature itself, such as the focus
of wind or gravity. The beauty of the balancing motions of the works
is simultaneously an expression of balancing the stresses of daily.
Masato seeks to promote a concept he calls "playground of one's
eyes",using inorganic materials and forms to search for peaceful
expression on which the eyes can rest idly for a while, glancing out
from the corners of daily life. He always aims at the activities of
crossing the fixed form of each expression genre.

There are scenes that we can leave
our eyes in them without any purpose. There are sounds which we listen
attentively to unconsciously. There must be it in them "something"
that it is resonant with the heartstrings at that time.
Many kinds of matters & elements in the environment that we are
surrounded keep changing in the various rhythm, with interacting
each other. A certain thing radiates the pulse of faster rhythm
than the human heartbeats. Some another things pulsate such slow
vibrations that they can't be catched in human senses. It can be
said that those each has their own time dimension, too.
In consciousness which one itself is considered as a fixed existence
in the passive stance, the above differences in the rhythm and wavelengths
seem to the person like mere gaps between oneself and them, and
the one feels them as the noises and the stresses. The person will
be able to get sympathy(resonance) while the wavelength overlaps
(which include oneself) if the one recognizes oneself as one factor
of the environment. Rather than the life with being pressed for
time, I would like to live as if to swim in the flow of the time.
Then, the waves will accompany many sympathetic points, and I'll
look foward to their sublimating to the new waves(=dimention).
All things and phenomena on the earth are related with the air
by the gravity. (Even any technologyical products are not exceptions,
too) I make allowances (movements) for those relations just a little,
and increase sympathetic points, and try to add some aesthetic flavor
to the atmosphere.
As I wish to listen to the sound of the earth turning...
